I hope everyone is enjoying lipstick month as much as I am. If you haven't already entered my giveaway, you still have the chance to win 5 amazing lipsticks. Today I want to share a few tips and tricks about, what to do when you have a lipstick color that's just wrong for you. Some places do allow you to return a product that you don't like. I'm always so jealous of how you can just return used makeup in the US, in Denmark that's a no go. MAC does allow returns if a product breaks you out. I tried that once with their Foundations. But yeah definately find out, if returning it is a possibility.
1. Make it work!
Is the tone slightly off or is it too dark or too light for you? it can be adjusted. If the lipstick is too dark, you can lighten it by applying a white or pale lip liner, before applying the lipstick. Is it too pale? use a darker lip liner. You could also change the color by adding a gloss on top. Is the color too crazy? try mixing it with a nude liner or lipstick.
2. Cream blush
Have you considered using it as a cream blush? Just because it doesnt look right on your lips, doesnt mean you cant use it on the cheecks. Lipsticks work amazingly well as cream blush. Just dap a little on to the cheecks, and blend it out with your fingers, or a stipple brush.
3. Cream contour & highlight!
Use it as a highlight or contour. Now this only works if the colors are right for the job. But if you accidentally buy a frosted lipstick, because you couldn't open the product in the store. You could totally use your frosted lipstick as a highlight. It gives a very pretty Dewey glow to the skin. Also if you have a Brown/nude/greish lipstick, you can use it as a cream contour. Just set it with a little powder and no one will be the wiser.
4. Eyeshadow base!
You could use it as an eyeshadow base. Now you may not want to do this, if you have oily lids, but it totally works. This does depend a little on the formulation thoug. I find drier lipsticks to work better than say, a glossy lipstick. Just remember to prime and set it with a powder shadow.
5. Mix it up baby!
Be your own lipstick designer! This is probably my favorite thing to do, with lipstick shades that are wrong for me. I mix them with other lipsticks, melt them and put them in little tins. This is super easy to do and you get to have your very own Unique one of a kind lipstick shade, that no one else has. I always take the lipstick I want to mix, and try mixing a little on the back of my hands, before I start melting them, so I know what color I'm getting and how much I want to use of each lipstick. You could also turn it into a lip gloss or make tinted lip balms. By mixing a bit of the lipstick with some vaseline or clear gloss, you can make your very own lip gloss. Or melt it with a stick of your favorite lip balm to make a tinted balm. Colors are a lot more easy to pull off when they are sheered out, and you control how sheer you want your product, by adding more or less lipstick to the mix.
If nothing else works, there is alway donation. Disinfect that bad boy, and give it to a friend, sell it on a blog sale or contact your local womans shelter to hear if they accept makeup donations. I know some Places are more than happy to recieve makeup donations. Just please disinfect it thouroughly first.
If you have any other suggestions, I would love to hear them. I hoped you liked todays post, I had a lot of fun making it!
